Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has launched the MTRH Rafiki Centre for Excellence in Adolescent Health.
The Centre will provide reproductive health services, mental health, chronic diseases management and HIV prevention/treatment services. It will cater for adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years of age including street children and other high-risk populations.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Centre on 29th November, 2016 the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa said that his administration values the adolescents regardless of their backgrounds.
He lauded the partnership between the Moi University, MTRH and its development partners led by Indiana University among other North American Universities whose efforts have helped MTRH grow from strength to strength.
“We work closely with Moi University College of Health Sciences and we are proud of our partners led by Indiana University in the United States.”
The CEO also announced advanced plans by the Government to build a new and modern multi-specialist 2000 bed MTRH in Eldoret, effective the year 2017.
The function was graced by the County Executive Committee (CEC) Members for Uasin Gishu, Ms. Margaret Chepkwony and Dr. Maurice Siminyu from Busia County. Others were; Chief of Party AMPATH, Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo and the Dean-Moi University School of Medicine, Prof. Lukoye Atwoli, Indiana University Field Director, Dr. Adrian Gardner among a host of other dignitaries.
